Mother Geek Productions
Gayley Knight, an experienced small business owner and entrepreneur, is the co-founder of Mother Geek Productions, parent company of Connecting Links Web Consulting, of which Gayley is CTO. Started in 1996, Mother Geek Productions, a consulting company in Montgomery County, Maryland, shows small business, municipalities and nonprofits how to use technology economically and profitably. Gayley early on recognized the value of the ADA accessibility issue for local governments and County agencies and promoted development of sites that were both accessible and usable. Notable among these are the Work-Life Toolkit Web site developed for the Montgomery County Commission for Women. Mother Geek Productions is undergoing a significant business change from tech consulting to marketing women in business. As part of this transformation, Gayley is producing a blog for "By, For, and About Women", an Internet radio show. In addition to attending to business, Gayley is a contributing member of Maryland Municipal League's IT Association where she continues to promote usage of the Web by local communities, serves on the Technology Committee of the Greater Bethesda-Chevy Chase Chamber of Commerce, and is an active member of Women Business Owners of Montgomery County (WBO), having served as communication chair and president. Gayley served as WBO representative on the board of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce where she continues to be an active member of the Small Business and Economic Development committees. In 2005, WBO celebrated its 25th anniversary by honoring 25 outstanding Montgomery County women -- and Gayley chaired this collaborative project between WBO, the Rockville Economic Development office and Rockville Chamber, the Montgomery County Women's Fair, and Montgomery County Business and Professional Women. Prior to her election as president of WBO, Gayley served on the advisory panel for e-commerce curriculum development for the graduate certificate program of the University of Virginia, Northern Virginia Center, was a volunteer instructor at the National Women's Business Center in Washington, DC, was a board member of the Junior League of Washington where she edited and produced the League's fundraising cookbook, was, and continues to be, an active member and former list mentor of DCWebWomen, an online community of 2000+ technically-oriented women in the greater Metropolitan area. She participates in her town government on a regular basis. She co-produces, and occasionally hosts, a public access television show, WEBurbs (now in its 7th year), talking about the thrills and pitfalls of the World Wide Web for business. Before starting her technology business, Gayley owned and operated a successful contemporary American craft gallery and shop. She organized the first art walks in downtown Bethesda, a precursor to the current local art scene. Gayley is a graduate of Mills College, Oakland, California, a 7th-generation native of Rochester, New York, and a resident of the Washington, DC area since 1975. When not online, Gayley is busy archiving family history.
