Theresa
Alfaro Daytner, CEO of Daytner Construction Group, has always had
entrepreneurial passion. She has spent a lifetime preparing and searching for
the right product or service to build a business around.
After graduating high school, Ms Daytner decided that studying accounting would
be a good foundation for understanding the internal workings of a successful
business. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Accounting at the University of Maryland in 1989, after giving birth to
her first child and her first business.
That first venture was a residential roofing company and Ms. Daytner wore all
the hats a typical small business owner wears – CFO, CEO, saleswoman, estimator
and most importantly, laborer. She continued to run this company while taking a
full-time position with a prominent Washington,
DC CPA firm and gained valuable
exposure to successful organizations and their leaders.
Next on the journey was working as a Project Accountant for a large, regional
General Contractor; again, to gain experience in the daily operations of an
established and successful business enterprise. Then, in 1991, Ms. Daytner
passed the CPA exam and hung out her shingle as a business consultant and tax
practitioner. During the 11 years she was engaged in her practice, she helped
many start-ups fulfill their entrepreneurial dreams by developing strong
business plans and sound financial objectives. In 1996 Ms. Daytner was awarded
“Entrepreneur of the Year” by the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce.
Finally, in January 2003, Ms. Daytner launched The Daytner Corporation, now
doing business as Daytner Construction Group (DCG). The first project for this
start-up, a $10M dormitory/training facility in Toledo, OH,
was completed successfully in December ’03. Daytner was hired as the Owner’s
Representative and has since been retained by the same client to oversee
construction projects at their Ft.
Lauderdale, FL headquarters.
In addition to this initial project, DCG has contracts to perform Project
Management for George Mason University and is close to securing several other
awards to provide Construction Management services in the Baltimore/Washington
DC/NoVA metropolitan area.
Ms. Daytner has also developed strategic alliances with complimentary companies
in order to expand DCGs scope of services, including CM at Risk and
Design/Build projects. While DCG is currently successful in the
private/institutional sector, the company is actively seeking to enter the
Federal market.
